According to the Sacramento Bee today, the feds are continuing to investigate Kevin Johnson's St. Hope Academy because of new accusations of misconduct:
The settlement of a federal investigation in April involving Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and his brainchild St. HOPE Academy could be unraveling because of new allegations of misconduct.
Claims regarding deleted e-mails made by Rick Maya, who is on administrative leave from his job as executive director of St. HOPE Public Schools, on Wednesday drew interest from the federal Office of the Inspector General and U.S. attorney's office. Both were involved in the investigation.
"The deliberate destruction of evidence is a serious allegation and will be treated accordingly," said Acting U.S. Attorney Lawrence Brown, whose office negotiated the financial settlement with St. HOPE. "We are reviewing the matter and will determine what investigative steps, if any, should be undertaken and by whom."
Among Maya's claims outlined in an eight-page resignation letter obtained by The Bee is that a member of the charter schools board deleted Johnson's e-mails during a federal investigation into the misuse of public funds at St. HOPE Academy.
