A Sacramento judge is considering rescinding his order to release Frederick Scott Salyer on bail because the ex-wife of the former head of SK Foods has a claim on the Pebble Beach home in which he is to live.
U.S. District Judge Lawrence K. Karlton decided to ponder the issue further after a desperate defense lawyer offered additional property as surety.
Salyer attorney Malcolm Segal offered to find two Salyer friends willing to put up property with $500,000 of aggregate equity in addition to his client's Pebble Beach home, valued at $6 million to $7 million.
Karlton finally decided to think about it some more in the quiet of his chambers, but told Segal, "Don't get your hopes up."
