The Yolo County Sheriff's Department announced this week that the U.S. Justice Department had cleared its deputies of criminal wrongdoing in the 2009 fatal shooting of Woodland farmworker Luis Gutierrez.
In a letter dated Feb. 4, the head of the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division wrote to Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto and said his staff had found no "prosecutable violation of the federal criminal civil rights statutes" by Sgt. Dale Johnson or Deputy Hernan Oviedo, two of three officers involved in the fatal incident.
