The sister of a Redding man who was arrested after police found him suicidal and nearly naked in his own driveway has sued several city of Redding and Shasta County officials after he died last year while in custody at the county jail.
Katherine Johnson claims in the lawsuit that county and city officials should have taken her brother, Randall Scott Johnson, to the hospital after police went to his home and found him overdosing on drugs.
Instead, they took him to the jail, the lawsuit says, where at one point officers allegedly laughed at him after he soiled himself as he suffered the effects of overdosing on methamphetamine, according to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Sacramento.
