The U.S. Department of Justice sent this letter to Governor Newsom complaining that California's temporary closures to stop the spread of COVID-19 violate the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment by purportedly singling out religious gatherings for unequal treatment. Although the letter lists all four California U.S. Attorneys, the letter ends by suggesting Governor Newsom call EDCA U.S. Attorney McGregor Scott to discuss the matter further.
