After 46 years with the EDCA district court, courtroom deputy Harry Vine is retiring at the end of the month. He's worked for five district judges (Philip Charles Wilkins, Edward J. Garcia, Milton Lewis Schwartz, David F. Levi, and currently John A. Mendez) and suffered through countless attorneys and litigants. I'll remember Harry fondly for his unflappable demeanor and dry wit. Send him your best wishes before he leaves (and buy him a beer afterward if you see him at the Hood Station Restaurant).
On an unrelated note, I'm suspending the EDCA blog until at least after the election. As you all can tell, I've been too busy to blog recently, with a lot of extra COVID-19 related work along with my usual caseload. And, especially in these times, I've also been leery of saying or blogging something that could come back to hurt me (or, more accurately, my clients) in some unanticipated way. So adios for now and thanks for reading. I'll reconsider starting up again after the election. --John
